GoHighLevel Snapshot vs Full Site Export: What's the Difference

Updated August 2026 · 4 min read

These two get confused constantly, because both are called "exporting" your work in casual conversation — but they solve completely different problems, and picking the wrong one wastes real time.

What a Snapshot actually is

A Snapshot packages a GoHighLevel sub-account's structure — funnels, pipelines, automations, campaigns — so it can be imported into another GoHighLevel account. It's built for agencies duplicating a proven setup across multiple client accounts, or transferring a sub-account between GHL agency accounts. The output is not a file you can open outside GoHighLevel; it's an import package that only means something inside the platform.

What a full site export actually is

A full export produces real, standalone files — index.html, stylesheets, images, or (for AI Studio) actual .tsx React source — that work completely independently of GoHighLevel. You can open the HTML in any browser with GHL never in the picture, or run the React project on any machine with Node installed. This is what you need if the destination is not another GoHighLevel account.

The mistake this causes

An agency decides to leave GoHighLevel, exports a Snapshot thinking it's a backup, cancels the subscription — and discovers the Snapshot file is useless without a GHL account to import it into. By then the account (and the only usable copy of the site) may already be gone. If the goal is leaving the platform, the Snapshot was never the right tool for that job.

Which one do you need?

Duplicating a working setup to a new GoHighLevel client account → Snapshot. Getting a copy that works completely outside GoHighLevel, for backup or migration → full export. See our full export guide for how that actually works.

If you're leaving the platform, you need a real export — not a Snapshot.
